A good Computer Scientist could have told you, 25 years ago, that the better pattern is to "pull" information (client pulls info from a server, like say, how it's done in an email client over IMAP). Not "push" it. But did anyone want to listen to that tried and true Wisdom? No. Because everyone became addicted to fondleslabs. It was a cursed idea from the start - Push Notifications - and I actually could have told you so 25 years ago.

for years I have disabled notifications. I read mail and reply to messages, when I want. The only thing beeping is the telephone or a call via messenger.
I have only enabled notifications for the messaging services I use (Signal, WhatsApp, Messenger, texting). Everything else is mostly disabled (including email).
I miss Apple's human interface guidelines back when they said that no application in the background was allowed to do anything but put a badge on its icon to let you know it wanted your attention.
Now I'm sitting there typing and about to hit return and Apple themselves pop up a bloody window and I accidentally enter whatever I was typing as my password and I have no idea what I need to re-open to fix it.
Completely pants. If I'm interacting with a device don't fuck with me.
Im heartened by how many ppl are in many ways and actions are now turning away from tech.
Im concerned that many things/skills that were part of the fabric of community have been eradicated or blocked. I worry that we might not be able to get them back. Like typewriters. Will cash go too ?
